What score on CISSP practice exams do you need?

What scores do candidates who passed actually get?
Here are the benchmarks that can be extracted from the success stories, each with its degree of confidence. These are scores reported by candidates who passed, not recommended thresholds.

One detail makes this table more telling than its figures: the first four rows cannot be compared with one another. A candidate at 50% on the hard simulator and a candidate at 80% on the classic bank may be at exactly the same level. The percentage says nothing until you know what it measures.
Why does the same percentage not mean the same thing depending on the bank?
Because the banks are not trying to do the same thing, and the testimonials describe them very consistently on this point.
The official drill app is judged easier than the exam: it mainly tests knowledge, with direct wording. A high score there means you know the vocabulary, not that you can decide between two defensible answers.
The simulator known to be hard does the opposite: it is deliberately harder than the exam and trains reasoning rather than recall. Around 50% is described there as the normal baseline. A candidate reaching 85% on it would probably not be in the same situation as a candidate at 85% on a drill bank.
Between the two, the real exam is described as less tricky than the hard simulator, but more abstract than the drill app: indirect language that has to be translated mentally, and a technical share that varies a great deal depending on which questions you draw — from 10-20% to around 70% depending on the candidate, and nobody is counting technical questions in the test centre.
Finally, a very technical simulator exists and is mostly advised against in the testimonials: too focused on pure technique, "killed my confidence" writes one of the candidates. A bad score on that one is not a diagnosis, it is a tool problem.
Does the LearnZapp readiness score predict anything?

Candidates who passed reported readiness scores ranging from 48% to 97%. A 49-point spread among people who all got the same final result: the correlation, if it exists, is invisible. Symmetrically, a failure was observed at 88%.
What this indicator really measures is your progress on that particular app: the volume of questions handled and your success rate on that particular format. It is a usage dashboard, not a prediction. The mistake not to make is to turn it into a green light — or a red one: postponing an exam because the counter shows 65% is as unfounded as sitting it because it shows 90%.
The same caution applies to a practice that has become common: asking a generative AI whether you are ready. The candidate testimonials judge it excellent as a tutor, but reject it as a judge of readiness — hallucinations included.
Why does adaptive scoring make thresholds misleading?
The exam runs in an adaptive format — 100 to 150 questions in 3 hours since 15 April 2024 — and its threshold of 700 out of 1000 is not a percentage of correct answers but an estimate of level weighted by the difficulty of the questions asked, hence the phrase from the testimonials: "This is why people can score 50% on practice exams and pass, and why people who score 80% fail." One last signal from the testimonials: the less technical the exam feels, the better things generally go.
Is 50% on a hard bank worrying?
Taken on its own, no: around 50% on the hard simulator is the normal baseline described by candidates who passed, and the range recorded among those who passed runs from 45 to 60%. The figure in itself is therefore not a signal.
What does deserve examination is the nature of your mistakes. Three cases stand out clearly in the stories.
If you miss questions because you do not know the concept, that is a content gap: you close it by reviewing the domain concerned, and it justifies pushing back the intensive question phase on that domain.
If you were hesitating between two plausible answers and picked the wrong one, the problem is how you read: keywords such as BEST, FIRST, NEXT or PRIMARY, elimination of the two obviously wrong options, preference for the answer that encompasses the others. This is the most frequent situation, the most rewarding to work on, and it is the subject of a dedicated article — eliminating distractors on the CISSP.
If you were answering a question you were not being asked — the background detail in the stem steered you somewhere else — that is the central trap of the exam, and you correct it in practice by rereading each stem two or three times before looking at the options.
One last piece of context, repeated in the testimonials: nobody feels ready. "No one ever feels 100% ready" goes with the forum's most frequent piece of advice: book your date early and stick to it. Waiting for a reassuring score is, statistically, a way of never sitting the exam — several stories report seven to eleven years of postponement.
Which indicator should you look at instead of the percentage?
A single criterion dominates all the others in the testimonials: your ability to explain why the three wrong answers are wrong, and not only why the right one is right. As long as you can only do it for the correct answer, your score mainly measures your luck on questions that come down to two plausible answers.
Three secondary indicators are usable, provided you treat them as measures of progress and not as pass thresholds: the stability of your results per domain over time, rather than an overall score; the decline in the number of reading mistakes relative to knowledge mistakes in your error log; and your endurance over a full session — rushing after question 100 is the most frequently cited cause of failure.
